Different TV stations broadcast different aspect ratios. Most HD channels use 16:9 widescreen. Some sub-channels broadcast standard 4:3 standard definition. Certain TV sets may default to “stretching” the 4:3 standard definition channels to 16:9, resulting in a stretched look.

How To Fix Stretched Pictures On Your TV

This issue is easily corrected by a setting on your remote. If there is a button that says “aspect ratio” hit it. This should adjust the stretched picture.

If you do not see an “aspect ratio” button on your remote, go to the settings on your TV set and look for “aspect ratio.”
